Towing means different numbers: speed limits, driving times, finding a pitch. How to plan a caravan route that still works out on day three.
Camping
Planning a camping holiday with caravan or motorhome
When camping, the site is the destination, not just an address to sleep at. And how long it takes to get there also depends on what you are towing.
The site is the destination
A campsite is named after the bay it sits on. Whether it suits you depends on things no address tells you: how steep the access road is, whether there is shade, how far it is to the water. In Traveto you record this on the place itself, as a note, a category or a comment from someone who has been there.
- Campsites, motorhome pitches, service points as categories of their own, with symbols on the map
- Travel types such as caravan or motorhome, so it is clear which site suits which vehicle
- Ratings and comments on each place, from everyone who comes along
Take links over instead of typing
You found the site in Google Maps or in a camping app. Paste the shared link into Traveto and the place is on the map. If an app only shares a route, as Park4Night does, Traveto takes the destination and asks what you want to call the site.
Driving time that works with a caravan
Route planners calculate for cars. With a caravan, other speed limits apply and breaks take longer. In Traveto the driving time sits on the leg, calculated for the vehicle you set. Between two sites you can also plan a stop as a station of its own, so the day does not end with setting up in the dark.
One packing list for everyone
Every trip has a packing list everyone can see: one stove instead of three, and somebody has the extension cable. Templates and suggestions help with the first draft; everyone ticks off their own items.
Common questions about camping
Can I take pitches over from Park4Night or Google Maps?
Yes, via the shared Google Maps link. Paste a place link when adding a place, and the pitch appears on the map with its position. Some apps, such as Park4Night with its “Route” button, only share directions to Google Maps. Traveto takes the destination from them, and you choose the name.
Does Traveto calculate driving time with a caravan?
The driving time sits on each leg and is calculated for the vehicle entered for the trip. With a caravan, still allow an extra hour for arriving and setting up.
Does Traveto work for a motorhome without a caravan?
Yes. Travel types are freely definable: a site can suit the motorhome but not the caravan because the access road is too narrow. That is written on the place, not kept in one person’s memory.
Does Traveto search for free pitches itself?
No, Traveto is not a booking platform. You can search for places in the map view and get suggestions; whether a pitch is free you check with the site itself.

Route planners calculate for cars. Towing means 40 to 60 per cent more, plus an hour for arrival and setting up. How to get a number that holds.
Planning together
Share the packing list instead of writing it four times
Four people, four packing lists, three stoves and no extension lead. Why a shared list is less work and what belongs on it.
